Orlando has no shortage of video production companies. Some are excellent. Some will hand you a beautiful clip that does nothing for your business.

The difference usually isn't the camera — it's whether they think about strategy before they think about footage.

Here are the seven questions that tell you which kind of company you're talking to.

1. "What will this video's one job be?"

A strategic partner answers immediately and specifically. A vendor says "whatever you want!" — which sounds flexible but actually means there's no plan.

2. "What happens before the shoot?"

Listen for: messaging work, scripting, shot planning. If the answer jumps straight to "we show up and film," you're paying for footage, not an asset.

3. "How will we know if it worked?"

A good answer ties the video to a measurable outcome — leads, booked calls, watch time, conversions. A weak answer talks about views.

4. "What do we get besides the main video?"

One shoot should produce a hero video and a library of short-form cutdowns for ads and social. If you're only getting one deliverable, you're leaving most of the value on the table.

5. "Can you show me work for businesses like mine?"

Not just pretty reels — work where they can explain the thinking. Why that hook, why that structure, why that call to action.

6. "Who owns the footage and the files?"

Get this in writing before you start. You should own your master files.

7. "What happens if it's not working?"

A real partner has a feedback-and-revision process and isn't afraid of the question. A vendor gets defensive.

The Orlando advantage — and the trap

Hiring local has real benefits: easier coordination, someone who knows Central Florida, in-person shoots without travel costs. But "local" alone isn't a strategy. Plenty of local companies are still just vendors.

The thing to look for isn't a zip code. It's whether the company treats your video as a business decision or a creative deliverable.
